    1. Invatatorul facea afaceri cu interpretul, cand acesta se infurie brusc si-l intreba pentru cine face el reguli, dat fiind ca nimeni nu are de gand sa respecte regulile unui invatator.
    2. Isi aminteste clientul tau cat i-au luat la garaj pentru repararea masinii atunci cand era in excursie in Japonia, si de ce au trecut reparatiile in contul tatalui lui vitreg, ceea ce fac de obicei garajele japoneze ori de cate ori se stramba cineva in vreme ce ei repara o masina?
    3. De cate ori il acuza politia pe expert de furtul unui tablou cunoscut al lui Michelangelo, acesta facea o plecaciune, sustinea ca fapta aceasta face cinste profesiei lui, si, invariabil, nega delictul de care fusese acuzat.
 
    3. Past Tense 
    1. The schoolmaster was [doing, making, speaking] business with the interpreter when the latter suddenly got angry, and asked whom [was he, he was, is he] making rules for, since nobody was going to obey a schoolmaster's rules.
    2. Does your customer remember how much [did the garage charge, has the garage charged, the garage charged] him for fixing his car when he was [doing, taking, spending] a trip to Japan, and why they charged the repairs to his stepfather's account, which Japanese garages usually do whenever anyone [does, makes, did] faces at them while they are fixing a car?
    3. Whenever the police [charged, was charging, would charge] the connoisseur with stealing a famous painting by Michelangelo, the latter [did, was making, would make] a bow, he claimed that his deed [did, made, makes] credit to his profession. and [would invariably deny, was invariably denying, will invariably deny] the offence he had been charged with.”
