Bury St Edmunds is a proud and traditional medieval market town that has managed to preserve its identity in the face of post-war modernisation, and today attracts thousands of visitors who enjoy its unique charms. St John's Street was saved by concerned residents in 1971 and is still full of distinctive independent shops today.
