Dedicated to interpreting orthodox religious music, the vocal trio Anatoly is also constantly preoccupied to offer gems of religious chant to the Christians of the Romanian Orthodox Church. The new CD Come for the Light joins the previous five which have enjoyed public success from all music lovers. This is also due to the fact that, in addition to the beauty of the interpretation and of the music itself, one can find here an authentic religious experience. We would even venture to say that the trio conveys an unfathomable ecumenical message, if we are to use His Beatitude Patriarch Teoctist’s words as he spoke to the Senate of the University of Munchen (9th May 2003) about the concerts of religious music presented by young seminar and orthodox students.
Anatoly – composed of Andrada Modiga, the conductor of the group, Gabriel Baciu and Ciprian Cucu – places itself within a religious musical space that other groups have left unexplored after 1990 in the cultural theme of orthodox music. All groups – among which one can find in a prime position the National Chamber Choir Madrigal, conducted by Marin Constantin, and the Patriarchal Choir conducted by Constantin Dragusin or Psalmodia conducted by archdeacon dr. Sebastian Barbu-Bucur, the choir  Stavropoleos or Anghelos from the Three Saint Hierarchs Church Iasi, together with the choirs from parishes and the institutions of religious education, secondary and higher – offer a musical perspective corresponding with the number of members they are made of. For this reason, the chamber particularity of the sound of Anatoly is welcome in its novelty as far as the expressive register is concerned. The voices are clear, in all the maturity of the individual timbre and – remarkably – they come together admirably within the ensemble. It is this very quality that constitutes the foundation of the interpretation and it is characterized by a warm sound, with no uneven edges, an interpretation that brings back the vocal ideal of the Renaissance, that is the genuine clarity of the human voice, with no shrillness and voices – generally for operas - that would impede the intimacy of the communion with Divinity.
The originality of the present gift of orthodox spirituality lies in the interweaving of music – that brings together gems of Romanian repertoire from composers such as P. Constantinescu, G. Musicescu, D. G. Kiriac, N. Lungu, Gh. Cucu, C. Porumbescu, or other composers – and the lyrical sensitivity of the poems written and read by Adrian Munteanu, poet from Brasov. This perpetual oscillation verse-music was conceived as a whole and not as separate instances and its goal is to lead us straight from the troubled depth of our being always seeking the Divinity apparently into our exterior only to bring before God our soul weeping or a chant of prayer.
Christ’s resurrection and the tearing apart that precedes it represent the foundation of Our Savior’s teachings, a synthesis of all syntheses of the worldly human existence where the despair of fighting the mundane finds its redemption in the eternal life within God. Therefore, into this very point in the human existence, i.e. the highly intellectual and profoundly spiritual debate, the work of art Come for the Light finds its place as it is shared in a special poetic and musical manner.
