When I asked the violator if he had any ID and he replied, "'Bout what?" I realized it wasn't going to be easy wearing green. Every time I thought I had seen it all, something would occur to remind me I hadn't. Whether it was a man trying to kill a fake deer with a bumper jack, a turkey poacher sitting on a bag of corn, or a drunk who claimed he didn't have any lungs, you never knew what might happen, and I loved it. There was no shortage of wildlife poachers who could not resist illegally dipping into mother nature's rich pantry. It's Not Easy Wearing Green is a collection of true yet hard-to-believe stories gathered during my thirty-two years as a certified wildlife biologist and conservation enforcement officer in rural Alabama. Being on call 24/7, we chased outlaws both day and night. With a strong desire to apprehend violators, we were more upset when folks didn't call in the middle of the night than when they did.
