Meyers Jones, Rachael: - Rachael Meyers Jones is a writer and youth worker in Oakland, California. Originally from New England, Rachael grew up in both Boston, Massachusetts, and the Northeast Kingdom, Vermont, splitting her time between urban and rural environments. Her writing has been shaped by her experiences as a mixed Black woman, and by the many amazing children and young people she's taught and mentored over the years. Having searched for her place in the world most of her life, she found home and community in Oakland, where she works toward her unique role in collective liberation: fostering connection and belonging in nature for Black and brown youth, and nurturing their leadership through consistent care. Rachael is the Executive Director at Youth on Root, a grassroots organization dedicated to championing youth on the frontlines of the Environmental Justice Movement. Her debut novel, King Coyote, is a love letter to her rebellious eleven-year-old self and to all the young people in her life who teach her every single day.
