Verwyst Ofm, Chrysostom: - Fr. Chrysostom Verwyst, OFM (1841-1925) was a Franciscan priest. He came from Holland when but six years old, in ships accompanied by Hollandish missionary priests, one of which had proclaimed the opportunies Wisconsin held for industrious immigrants. After being ordained, Fr. Verwyst was assigned to various missions and parishes until, in 1882, he was appointed to minister to the Ojibwe Indians in the Bayfield-Ashland area, which he did for the rest of his priestly career.
