El-Bisi, Jehann: - Jehann El-bisi is a single mother who was trained as an elementary education specialist. Holding a Doctorate in Teacher Education and Curriculum studies from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and as a survivor of trauma, she discovered the use of narrative, art and storytelling, as powerful modalities for healing.As a "triracial" woman of African, European and Native American descent and ancestry, she is dedicated to multicultural and inclusive literature for children and adults. This is her first illustrated children's book, and book one of the Skyflower Izfree series, created to empower children from unique cultural and racial backgrounds, adding to the growing body of work that celebrates diversity. For children who must face or overcome loss, or trauma, Skyflower Izfree is a resilient and joyful character who taps into courage and nature and positive forces for survival. She is easy for all children to relate to. From Skyflower, they can gain a sense of belongging, finding their own voice and strength.It is presented as powerful enough to open dialogue, and universal and light enough to appeal to wide audience of both children and adults. It is intended to assist all adults working with or parenting children, in various capacities of educator, clinician, or counselor. The character Skyflower Izfree is based on real experiences of the author, and is autobiographical.There is a soft doll that accompanies this book for multiple and dynamic therapeutic purposes.
