DREAM THEATER este nu numai un exponent reprezentativ pentru aria progresiv metal, dar în același timp este trupa care a dat un puternic impuls genului. Trupa americană își trage seva din numeroase genuri și trupe de rock: Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Rush sau Queensrÿche. DREAM THEATER - GREATEST HITS (2008), avem de aface cu un dublu album, deci cu un best of, majoritatea piselor fiind atent selectate, deci, la un înalt nivel.
