Butler E. Brewton is a retired Professor Emeritus from Montclair State University, New Jersey who earned his doctorate in literature at Rutgers University. He has taught undergraduate and graduate classes of British and American literature for 55 years. He is a published poet with over 300 poems in college texts, literary magazines, and three original collections of poetry. He has edited a 16 volume encyclopedia for McGraw Hill Far Eastern Publishers while living in London and co-authored "The Literary Guide to the United States (Facts on File, NYC). He also wrote a critical book analyzing Richard Wright's fictive women in that writer's American trilogy. His teaching experience spread from North to South, Montclair University, Furman University and South Carolina State University. Known as a dynamic teacher he is also known for his writing and sense of humor.
