Marco Pierini (1954), The Rum Historian, lives in Tuscany. In a previous life he got a degree in Philosophy in Florence and studied Political Science in Madrid, but his real passion has always been History. Then he discovered rum and decided to devote himself to the History of Rum, because rum is not only a great distillate, it's a world. Produced in scores of countries, by thousands of companies, with an extraordinary variety of aromas and flavors, rum has a terrible and fascinating history, made of slaves and pirates, imperial fleets and revolutions. And by using rum as point of view you can understand a lot about our world. Marco runs a column - The Rum Historian - in GOT RUM? and writes for RUM GAZETTE.
