This is book #2 in the Brave Girls Series, designed to empower young girls and based on the author's life experiences in the outdoors. The author is a high school counselor, runner and hiker, and the illustrator is one of her high school students. The editor teaches English "next door" and they all believe in helping young girls step out of comfort zones, enjoy the outdoors, and gain confidence that will carry over into every area of life.

This story is based on the author's recovery from a horrific accident that kept her out of work for a year. In addition to cervical fractures and brain injury, the author also had an injured arm; it was tough healing.
