Arcana - Stephen Jonas

Arcana

- Stephen Jonas is a member of the generation of post-WW2 New American Poetry, praised by Allen Ginsberg as being a pioneering gay voice in the mythic Boston poetry scene during this time.

- A key associate of well-known poets like Charles Olson, Jack Spicer, John Wieners, Robin Blaser.

- Contains previously unpublished and uncollected poems, similar format to our selected poems of Frank Lima, Incidents of Travel and Poetry. A very similar "retrieval" project as that book, published by City Lights in 2016 and also edited by Garrett Caples. That book received acclaim from The Paris Review, Publishers Weekly (starred review), Library Journal, Chicago Tribune, and more.

- Part of the gay liberation intellectual milieu of 1960s Boston.

- A lost figure of his era in the African American poetry community and the gay community, partly due to his own reservations around his identity.

- Will include facsimiles of various notebooks where Jonas wrote, adding mystique to the idea that these were "lost & found" writings from an overlooked poet in his time.
