A Glass Darkly

When Glen Lenox poses a burning question to his dying mother, she can no longer speak. Can she find a way to communicate the answer? And what is the secret she holds?

A Glass Darkly explores the turbulent fortunes of the Lenox family. After a sudden death in exquisitely embarrassing circumstances, the family's world shatters. Three nearly-grown sisters each face pivotal choices that will shape their futures and themselves, while Glen harbors his own secret that threatens everything. As the story unfolds, readers begin to unravel Glen's question long before he does, driving the tension to the novel's surprising conclusion.

Jean Goulden's narrative is rich and vivid, blending gentle humor with poignant moments. The characters, both major and minor, explore the timeless theme: "How did I become who I am?"

Drawing from biblical imagery where ancient mirrors reflected shadowy images, A Glass Darkly proposes that there is always more beneath the surface than meets the eye. This novel is a compelling, tender exploration of identity, courage, and compassion, inviting readers to peer into their own reflections and discover the hidden depths within.
