Seventeen-year-old Hala has decided to die. It seems like the only solution after years of abuse, a missing father, and living in a wasteland in the heart of the Midwest. Eager to end it all and yet too anxious to actually do it, she buys herself time by writing a series of songs that serve as a memoir for her short life. Little does she know, her book of songs is found in another world. Twenty-four-year-old Deena picks it up on a cold New York night, and decides to bring the songs to life. Unbeknownst to Deena and Hala, the music connects their worlds in an inexplicable way. Soon, shadow people haunt them, they journey to strange worlds, and time and space lose the meanings they once had. As Hala finds herself trapped between universes, she must travel within the darkest parts of herself in order to be freed.
