AI in the Boardroom: Preparing Leaders for Responsible Governance

Tom Petro brings decades of boardroom leadership and strategic insight to artificial intelligence, drawing from his experience as a CEO, corporate director, and venture investor. As managing partner of 1867 Capital Partners, he oversees investments in bioinformatics, fintech, and tech-enabled services. Tom has led two public and two private companies, including a NASDAQ IPO.

Tom chairs the Risk Management and Trust committees at Univest Financial Corporation (NASDAQ: UVSP) and serves on the boards of Fintegra, Derstine's Inc., and the NACD Philadelphia chapter. He also helps global firms launch venture studios as a board member-in-residence for Mach49. Tom's AI expertise is demonstrated through his directorships with companies commercializing AI in life sciences, legal, insurance, and financial services. His articles on AI governance have appeared in Directors & Boards and NACD's Directorship magazine, and he is a frequent panelist. He holds a BS in Business Management from Point Park University and a CERT Certificate in Cybersecurity Oversight from Carnegie Mellon.
