Around the World in Eighty Days

Originally published in 1872, Around the World in Eighty Days imagined for readers the possibility of circumnavigating the world when the prospect of such a feat was still in its infancy. After an argument with colleagues at London's Reform Club, the wealthy Phileas Fogg wagers 20,000 that he can circumnavigate the globe in eighty days, and then sets out that very evening with his servant Passepartout. A series of adventures on the seas and rails--as well as the presence of a detective from Scotland Yard who mistakes Fogg for a wanted criminal--provide readers with intriguing plot twists along the way.
