Building Community in Houston: Alice Baker, Julia Ideson, and Ima Hogg

KATE SAYEN KIRKLAND has participated in Houston's nonprofit sector for many years. She is the author of The Hogg Family and Houston: Philanthropy and the Civic Ideal and Captain James A. Baker of Houston, 1857-1941, which received the Texas Institute of Letters award for the Most Significant Scholarly Book and won honorable mention for the Texas State Historical Association's Coral Horton Tullis Memorial Prize for Best Book on Texas History in 2013.
