As a tweener he began playing the Avalon Hill bookcase games and, of course, chess. He is a disabled Air Force veteran, spent 22 years performing and instructing wilderness SAR with Civil Air Patrol and retired from manufacturing after 30 years. He is still married to his high school sweetheart, Kim, the father of three boys, and the doting grandfather of three boys and three girls.
