Hohman, Melinda: - Melinda Hohman, Ph.D., M.S.W., is Professor at the School of Social Work, San Diego State University, San Diego, where she has worked since 1995. Dr. Hohman teaches courses in substance abuse treatment, research, and social work practice. She also coordinates the undergraduate social work program. Dr. Hohman's research interests include substance abuse assessment and treatment services and the overlap of substance abuse treatment and Child Welfare services. She has published over 30 articles and is the author of 3 book chapters and numerous reports. Dr. Hohman has been a trainer in Motivational Interviewing (MI) since 1999, training community social workers, Child Welfare workers, probation officers, and addiction counselors across Southern California. Dr. Hohman has been the PI or Co-PI on numerous grants, including a statewide survey of Alcohol and Drug Program administrators regarding perceptions of drug treatment. She also conducted a study of women in the drug treatment system who were also pregnant and of those concurrently involved with the Child Welfare system. She also oversaw the training for over 2000 employees of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation/Division of Juvenile Justice in Motivational Interviewing, a project which was conducted through the Center on Criminality, Addiction Research Training and Application, Department of Psychiatry, UC San Diego. Dr. Hohman was the Co-PI on an intervention pilot study of using the Paradigm Developmental Model of Treatment along with other counseling methods with multiple offender clients who were enrolled in a Driving Under the Influence Program. The PDMT scale is a product of that study.
