Zara, Janelle: - Janelle Zara is a Los Angeles-based freelance journalist and author. You can find her work in a variety of publications beginning with "art" (Artnet, Artforum, ARTnews, and the Art Newspaper), as well as The Guardian, T Magazine, and many others. In 2019, Zara published her first book, "Becoming an Architect," a title in Simon & Schuster's Masters at Work series. Much of her work explores the intersection between art and popular culture, including a 2022 essay that won a National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Award. The judges praised the piece for "smart insights into how a pop culture icon influences art [that] connects on a deeper, more human level than mere observation."
