Gumbo Circuitry: Poetic Routes, Gastronomic Legacies is part memorial, part celebration, part "calling in" (as opposed to calling out), and part Carnivale. Make no mistake- this is a Creole Book and as such, this collection is a love letter to Louisiana's Creole, Indigenous Gulf South, and Latinidad communities, in the homeland and the diaspora. This is a multimodal story that starts and ends with feasting. In Jolivétte's first (debut) poetry and cookbook collection food is land and food is family. In this creative and cultural collection, Jolivétte celebrates the intimacies of kinship and story as it rises from land into the food we cook, to the stories we tell at our dinner tables and songs we sing on front porches sipping chicory coffee-listening as the Spanish moss whispers a Creole lullaby.
