Viceroy has decided that even though Felix can be an ass, he has a good side. Well, okay, not really a good side, but he can grill a decent steak, and he has a nice loft and great friends even if he thinks Gracie and Lucy are beneath him.
Lucy has been trying to quit her job for ten years, even if walking out is a bit more complicated for reapers than for humans. Especially when your boss, Death, doesn't want to lose you. But after more than four centuries, Lucy wants her humanity back. And she just might get it this year if she's willing to put aside everything she believes.
But no one pays forty dollars an hour for simple dog walks in the park unless there's something seriously wrong with the dog. Gracie learns that the world she thought she knew is only the part the humans see, the job you interview for isn't always the job you end up with, and getting up close and personal with Death has some interesting benefits.
