Shiva Ryu se ha convertido en uno de los poetas más populares en Corea del Sur. Licenciado en Literatura y Escritura Creativa por la Universidad Kyung Hee, donde estudió con una beca de escritura creativa, cuando estaba en segundo curso ganó el concurso de nuevos escritores del Korea Times.

Ha vivido en centros de meditación en los Estados Unidos y la India, adonde regresa una vez al año, y ha traducido obras de Osho, Eckhart Tolle y el Dalai Lama al coreano.
