Reformation Bible Society Journal: The Reformation Text and the Septuagint

De (autor): Jeffrey T. Riddle

The Reformation Bible Society (reformationbiblesociety.org) was formed in early 2024 and hosted its first annual conference on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at the Liberty Mountain Conference Center at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. The conference was well attended by enthusiastic participants from a dozen US states, as well as from the United Kingdom.

This publication is a collection of papers related to the conference theme, "The Reformation Text and the Septuagint." It consists of three parts.

First, there are four papers presented as plenary lectures at the conference that approached the topic from four perspectives: Old Testament studies (Russell T. Fuller), New Testament studies (Jeffrey T. Riddle), historical-theological studies (David H. Kranendonk), and apologetics (Christian M. McShaffrey).

Second, there are papers addressing various topics related to the central theme, offering historical, exegetical, and apologetic insights. Most of these were presented as "short papers" at the conference, and a couple others were added later (those by Larry Brigden and Paul J. Barth) that were not presented at the conference.

Third, there are three book reviews on recent works related to the Septuagint. We have described this work as a journal. Some of the articles in this journal follow a more popular format, while others are more academic. One is a transcription of a lecture.

We hope this collection of seminar papers and book reviews will further and expand the conversation that took place in Lynchburg and edify all who read them, especially those who are considering and promoting the recrudescence of the traditional Protestant Text in our day.

Many thanks to all who contributed by submitting papers and to the executive committee of the Reformation Bible Society for their constant support and encouragement for this project. Special thanks to Ryan Noha, who offered invaluable editorial help along the way.
