Rhizome

Rhizome is a collection of brief, yet, eye-opening essays and detailed mixed media drawings of plants, bryophytes, fungi, and mosses drawn by the artist/author on walks in the fields and forests of Western North Carolina during one year. Each of the 67 full-color drawings is accompanied by an essay describing the artist's observations that led her to a different understanding of the essential relationships and interactions among the foregrounded plants and other plants as well as with bryophytes, insects, birds, mammals, humans, the moon, the sun, and the air. A brief introduction written by the artist reviews her insights into the rhizomatic nature of these forest based plants as well as with bryophytes, insects, birds, mammals, humans, the moon, the sun, and the air.
