Rising From Deception: Recovering From an Internet Scam

I was that lonely woman looking for love. It didn't take long to find my soul mate. Within a few short weeks I was convinced he loved me, wanted to be with me, and desired to protect me from all harm.

It was the exciting relationship I was looking for. A tonic for my boredom and isolation. We continued behind the computer screen communication for over ten months. My heartstrings were in his firm grip. I kept our texting and emails a secret from all my family and friends.

But why was everything suddenly so difficult? He was ill. He was better. He misplaced his wallet. He had problems getting his payment from the company that had hired him. It was one problem after another which he seemed to want me to solve for him.

Would he ever come to be with me as he promised? Worry progressed to fear and fear led to broken trust. Could he be a scammer? NO! He is wonderful. He always compliments me. He is just having some hard times. I know he will pay me back. He said so!

Was it all a web of deception? Was he really a married man? Was it just an emotional outlet for him? Or was there more to it? Was it a love Confidence Game?
