Rocks, Roots and Rocky Mountains is the captivating story of my 33-day solo journey hiking the Colorado Trail, as told from a geologist's perspective. It is the second in a series and is written in the form of daily logs originally transcribed from my daily journals, then embellished with additional details resulting from further recollection and research. Each day brings the reader with me on my fascinating encounters with other hikers as well as the challenges of navigating through 486 miles of rugged alpine trail. Written for both the hiker and armchair reader, I included stories about the ever-changing scenery, terrain, and terrifying storms, along with frequent observations and explanations about those mysterious rocks beneath my feet. I am a retired geoscience advisor since 2017 living near Pittsburgh, PA. Throughout my 38-year career as a geologist, I have worked for numerous companies in the exploration and production sector of the petroleum industry, while living in such places as West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Texas.
