May, 1945. Bennie Sherwood commands the police department in war weary Richmond, Virginia, but he's more interested in marrying his longtime girlfriend than in keeping the peace. On the eve of Victory in Europe Day, a double murder rocks the city and leads Bennie to discover a secret web of Nazi fifth columnists operating out of the very city he calls home.

Meanwhile, Knox Sutton is recently out of prison but already in cahoots with his old gang. Timony 'Thursday' Wells, the city's foremost socialite and gossip columnist, is happy go lucky in public but secretly suffering from heartache at home. And Marlon Jefferson, a Black minister, is keeping several dark secrets at bay.

They all have a part to play in Bennie's pursuit of the truth. Corruption, betrayal, war profiteering - the stakes have never been higher for Bennie and those around him. With the danger looming over Richmond threatening to shatter their fragile illusions of peace, will these tough men and even tougher women succumb to the darkness or find their own way to the light?
