The Borzoi - A Complete Anthology of the Dog

De (autor): Various

A wolf-coursing hound of the Russian nobility, arriving in the West on the arm of the aristocracy that bred it.

The Borzoi - A Complete Anthology of the Dog gathers breed chapters from the rare kennel literature of 1897 to 1935, among them H. W. Huntington's My Dog and I (1897), Arthur Craven's Dogs of the World (1931) and Walter Hutchinson's Hutchinson's Dog Encyclopaedia (1935). Known in Britain and America for decades as the Russian Wolfhound, the breed reached the West largely through imperial gifts - it could not, for most of its history, be bought - and Queen Alexandra's kennel at Windsor did the rest.

The chapters give the points, the extraordinary silhouette, the temperament, the coursing work and the pedigrees of the celebrated dogs, with the original photographs reproduced throughout.

This edition features:

  • Breed chapters from the rare kennel literature of 1897 to 1935
  • Russian kennel history and wolf-coursing lore, from writers close to the source
  • Points, silhouette and temperament, with the pedigrees of celebrated winners
  • The original photographs of the leading dogs of the era, reproduced throughout
