The Hellenistic Mysteries & Christianity

To read The Hellenistic Mysteries & Christianity is a profound experience, it bridges the gap between ancient initiatory Mysteries and a deeper view of Christianity. It provides evidence that the Gospel writers themselves viewed the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ, events which occurred over three-days, as a parallel to the three-day initiation process of the Mysteries, but a process through which a cosmic Christ-force became linked to the human soul and the Earth's soul. * An overview of the Hellenistic Mysteries and their leading teachers * The Prologue to the Odyssey: a new translation shows its long-hidden secret at last * The deeper meaning of Homer's "Cave of the Nymphs" * A translation of Porphyry's 'Hymn to Apollo' which reveals its esoteric depth * The sign of Jonah and the bard Taliesin: what this legend really means * The "Mystery" of Golgotha & the sun god * The Harrowing of Hades & the Odes of Solomon * Resolving the problem of 'the Cry from the Cross': was Jesus forsaken or glorified? * A Christian Mystery: the sun god & a new translation of passages from Origenes * "Eternal life" The gift of Christ, and the goal of the Mysteries too? * Evidence for a solar aspect to Christ in the Gospels themselves * The Church against the Mysteries: extracts from the legend of Cyprian & Justina * A new assessment tool for New Testament studies * Appendix: critiquing Rudolf Steiner's interpretation of "...he who lifts up his heel against me" (St. John;13:18) as evidence for a cosmic Christ-force in the Earth.
