When Maggy joins her boss, columnist Sebastian, for a winter reunion of five old friends, she is just as surprised as they are to find actress Anna Rose included in the party. How could Sebastian think it appropriate to bring Anna Rose along to this snowbound get-together? But when they discover that Anna Rose has disappeared the next morning, no one but Maggy and Sebastian seem particularly surprised. But where could she have gone in the middle of the night during a snowstorm, and miles from the highway? Sebastian's friends-haughty Morgan, stuffy Professor Jameson and the deVries, the odd couple who own the house-put up a solid front, arguing that Anna Rose had been so drunk the night before that she must have decided to walk back home. They agree to search for her nonetheless....and that is when Maggy discovers the missing Anna Rose...

The first Eunelda Potter knows about the missing student, Gerald Chase, is when one of the school masters, Mr. Thomas, comes looking for him at her employer's house. Sam Dorrance's son David is Gerald's only real friend. But neither Eunelda nor Sam know where Gerald or David is, and Mr. Thomas has to go back to Gerald's sister, Valerie, with the frustrating news. Then three months later, a body is found at the bottom of the cliff behind the school, and it appears to be Gerald's. His head and chest have been crushed-could this have been an accident... or has he been murdered? Eunelda doesn't want to be involved, but everyone-including Sheriff Thad Shaw-keeps pulling her in ... right into the middle of it.
