In the middle of the 17th century, a young Jewish man took his first steps toward becoming a Susquehannock warrior and chief. Captured in a raid on a New Amsterdam settlement, Judah wins a place among the tribe that snatched him out of his simple, ordinary life of a leather goods maker. Across a wilderness and within the tribal community that he comes to lead, Judah becomes Blue Eyes, and then Blue Eagle, fighting enemy nations that were both native and colonizing. His courage and insights are tested in his journeys.
