That night as we were in bed I kept thinking of that old Hemingway letter and then, for some reason, of what Bernhard had said about doing SEO for the rest of my life, and that Ernest Hemingway and SEO are two things that couldn't possibly belong in the same thought, and that one day people will forget about Ernest Hemingway and how to write love letters, but they will know everything about SEO and how to set up a portable hotspot for the Internet. And so, that was it, one day school teachers will assign their students the reading of Jeff Bezos's memoir instead of The Old Man and the Sea, and in my own small way I was responsible for it.Then we began hearing the neighbors upstairs. It was not the usual weird squeaking. They were having a fight. A big one.A woman was hollering something in German."It's the black woman," Marina said, "the one we met in the staircase the other day."Then a male voice screamed something else. He kept repeating the same sentence over and over but neither me nor Marina could understand it."That must be the guy who was with her," I said. He was a tacky looking skinny man I would also occasionally see smoking a cigarette in the courtyard. "They seemed cheerful the other day."The woman would just respond with a "Jaaa... jaaa." It went on like a mantra. Sometimes she would alternate with "Neeein... neeein!"<
