The Pointer

De (autor): Anonim

The classic English bird dog, described by three of the great Victorian kennel writers - and drawn by Arthur Wardle.

The Pointer - A Dog Anthology reprints the chapters devoted to the breed in Vero Shaw's The Illustrated Book of the Dog (issued in parts from 1879), W. D. Drury's British Dogs and Rawdon B. Lee's A History and Description of the Modern Dogs (Sporting Division) of Great Britain and Ireland. Lee was kennel editor of The Field, and his sporting volume carries Wardle's full-page drawings - reproduced here with the original photographs.

Descended from the Spanish pointers brought home by British officers in the eighteenth century and refined for speed and nose, the breed was first set to hares for the greyhounds before it was ever trained to birds. These chapters cover its points, temperament, working ability and celebrated dogs, with the pedigrees of the leading winners.

This edition features:

  • The breed chapters from three landmark Victorian kennel works, reprinted entire
  • Arthur Wardle's full-page drawings, reproduced from the original volumes
  • Points, temperament and field ability, with the pedigrees of celebrated winners
  • Essential reading for shooting people, breed historians and collectors of sporting art
