The Power of Mathematics: A Survey of Problem-Solving Strategies

Mathematics is the essence of problem solving. We embrace this by focusing our attention on the applications, and allow the algebra and computational skills to filter in where they are necessary. We organize our approach into modules on Sets and Logic, Measurement and Spatial Reasoning, Combinatorics and Probability, Statistical Reasoning, and the Mathematics of Money. This textbook is suitable for use in a quantitative reasoning course designed non-technical majors. These courses usually have names like, "Survey of Mathematics," "Modern Mathematics," or "Liberal Arts Mathematics."
