Robin George Collingwood, FBA (1889 - 1943) was an English historian, philosopher, and archaeologist most famous for his philosophical works including "Outlines of a Philosophy of Art " (1925) and the posthumously-published "The Idea of History" (1946). One of his more well-known works, "The Principles of Art" constitutes an interesting and detailed examination of the very idea of art-what it is, what it does, and what it means.
