The Role of Women In Imām al-Ḥusayn's (as) Uprising

An issue that has not been given sufficient recognition - despite opening a new realm of opportunity to identify with the cause of Imām al-Ḥusayn (a) - is the prominent role of women. In this book, Ayatullah Sayyid Muhammad Baqir al-Hakim (q) approaches the revolution of Imām al-Ḥusayn (a) with a particular emphasis on the pivotal role women played during this period. Citing examples of pious women in Islamic history, the author shows how women not only participated in the actual fighting in Karbalāʾ, but also fulfilled their duties. Sayyid al-Hakim elaborates that women were influential in upholding the goals of Imām al-Ḥusayn (a) and in promoting the lessons of Karbalāʾ.
