Good Sport Sammy is a boy who discovers the true meaning of friendship and empathy through self-reflection.

After his birthday weekend, Sammy Cordova brings a new game called Shooting Stars to school to play with friends. After cheating to win, he has difficulty finding anyone who wants to play with him.

"Each time he played, he won. As he did before, he threw his arms up in the air and giggled, "That's a big win for me "

"Soon, Sammy had trouble finding anyone who wanted to play with him. He sat alone during choice time.

"Looking around, he noticed Aaron and Mandy working on a science experiment. Leo and William were building a tower of Legos. Nathaniel worked on a puzzle. Yvette and Yvonne were reading. Everyone was playing with someone. Everyone, but Sammy.

"Sammy was sad. His smile was gone. He felt lonely."

With the help of his school counselor, Miss Bee, Sammy learns the true magic of friendship is caring more about your friends than winning.

Ed. with a K-12 School Counseling endorsement. The author has been an active member with the Washington School Counselor Association, as elementary VP, ethics committee chair, and received the 2013 Counselor of the Year award.
