As children experience the world, they see, hear, touch, taste and smell new and exciting things every single day. Talk about brain stimulation! As their senses get overloaded with newly discovered things, naturally, kids are going to wonder about them. Too many times have I seen an inquisitive child ask a question only to get shut down with a quick, brush off response. As a father of 3, I can admit that I am guilty of doing this from time to time. But then I realized what that does to a child's curiosity, it crushes it. In the young years of life, asking questions and finding answers is the ultimate mission. I am in a happy interracial marriage and I'm fortunate enough to have 3 beautiful mixed children. We are a library-going family and have more books in our home than we can count! Something I noticed as we were doing reading time with our kids was there wasn't many households in the books that looked like the household my children are a part of. I noticed that there weren't many children in the books that looked like my children, either. I remember when I was a child how excited I would be when I saw someone that looked like me in a tv show, a book or a movie. I want my children, and all the other children who have households like ours, to feel that excitement that I felt when I was growing up.
