Literary Tomboys from the 19th to the 21st Century. Memorable Characters and Their Case For Free Expression

More than anything, this study is an attempt to normalize several types of discussions that 'benefit' from too much ideology, too much weaponizing, and too much exaggeration. Such discussions are relative to feminism, intersectionalism, femininity, masculinity, and they all seem to look at the category of the tomboy to illustrate part of their argumentation. When discussing literature, unfortunately, much of the discussion is about the social relations of the times narrated, about power struggles and how that is impactful on the characters, about the philosophies and the outlooks of the writers and as representatives of their gender and social stratum, about anything but less and less about literature itself.
