Most are glossed over, or are references. It's been compared to Handmaid's Tale, but I can't give a comparison as to the darkness level because I've never actually watched it. (Again, I avoid reading and writing darkness.) So while many of the reviews don't mention that this is dark, it could be that they're not as sensitive to the material. If you have triggers of any abuse, sexual or physical, religious triggers, or of violence or death, this may not be for you. All heroines get their happily-ever-after at the end of each book.
