In this book, I explain what it was like to search for The Lost Dutchman Gold Mine when that legend was still alive and still drew in prospectors and adventurers from all over the world in their hundreds. I describe what it was like to inhabit, if only occasionally, what was the most dangerous place in North America. This was then the only place where the Old West was still alive, and it was the last place where the dying vestiges of that part of history lasted the longest. I include many stories describing our interactions with other prospectors, both cordial and difficult. I include a chapter describing how we went about packing into The Mountain, and how we went about prospecting for lost mines and treasures reported to have been secreted in that wild and woolly county. With 219 pages, 35,000 words, and 143 pictures, this book is a fascinating read for those interested in knowing what it was like to search for a legendary lost gold mine.
