Memoirs of the Secret Societies of the South of Italy, and Particularly the Carbonari

De (autor): Jakob Salomon Bartholdy

Salomon Bartholdy, Jakob: - "Jakob Salomon Bartholdy (1779 - 1825) was born from Jewish parents and was educated at the University of Halle. He took the Bartholdy second surname from a family property upon converting to Christianity. He fought in the Austrian army against Napoleon, following which he entered the Prussian diplomatic service and accompanied the Allied armies to Paris in 1814. Later he was made Prussian Consul General and dispatched to Rome, where he became a patron of the arts. The revival of fresco painting by young German artists in Italy owes largely to his patronage. His collection of antiques was subsequently bought by the Berlin Museum of Art and the frescos decorating Casa Zuccari, his mansion in Rome, were transferred to the Berlin National Gallery."
