Nyaphaga, Issa: - Issa Nyaphaga is a multimedia artist and illustrator based in the U.S. He was taught traditional painting by his mother and Arabic calligraphy by his father. Issa is internationally known as an activist and political cartoonist. He has collaborated with various well-known, established institutions and artists around the globe. In the 1990s over 7,000 cartoons, drawings, illustrations, graphic novels, and comics were published in Issa's home country, Cameroon, and reached five million readers. Since 1999, Issa has taught his art techniques in schools, universities, cultural centers, and social institutions. He also conducts art therapy programs for child soldiers, at-risk children, teenagers, and seniors in France. Issa is a recipient of the 2012 Global Rotary Peace Award, the 2009 Joan Mitchell Fellowship, and the 2017 Outstanding Service Award, a recognition of the New Mexico Office of African-American Affairs. Issa lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, U.S.
