Having been an English 110 student of Prof. Len Pellettiri, it was very gratifying to see his picture and read your fine article about him in your paper on March 29. In his courses, he emphasizes the basics of writing, which many students seem to have bypassed in their journey through high school. His classes are exceedingly interesting while he imparts the knowledge being sought by the student.

It seems that in our educational system today, there are so many marginal teachers. This is evidenced by the many reports and articles published in various periodicals. Being able to learn under a gifted man such as Prof. Pellettiri is deeply satisfying.

In today's world of "mass communications," i.e., TV satellites, computers, satellites, pocket calculators, etc., people, namely today's youth, are being shortchanged and are experiencing a great loss in their ability to read, write, and talk to one another. It is this type of instructor (Prof. Pellettiri) and the instructions given by him that can revitalize these abilities and fill the voids that have been created by the electronic age.

Early diversities led Len Pellettiri to the book This Believing World, a study of comparative religion, which changed his life. He taught anthropology, astronomy, science fiction, and the fact that we all come from stardust and, therefore, are related and are here on this planet to help each other via smiles and social action. Then came decades of teaching at a college in San Diego and the writing of this book, his legacy to you.
