Sharon Nesbit's Outlook: Sunny with occasional tirades

De (autor): Len Otto

"I am required to be grouchy. I'm a columnist," says Sharon Nesbit, award winning reporter/columnist of The Outlook, in Gresham, Oregon. Thus the name of her new book: "Sharon Nesbit's Outlook: Sunny with Occasional Tirades." Nesbit, who this year won the Best Local Column award for 2010 in her newspaper's division of the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association, is author of selected columns from The Outlook, a twice weekly newspaper in Gresham, Oregon. "The newspaper is the meal, your column is the dessert. And sometimes I eat dessert first." - Cathy Garrett, Outlook reader, Portland, Ore. Nesbit's subjects reflect the broad range of varied life experience, wrestling with technology, breaking her grandchildren, forgetting that she is old, chafing at politicians and puritans, and traveling in the ancient and irascible motor home, Maude. They deal with life in Troutdale, Oregon, praise winters on the island of Maui and ponder the puzzles of contemporary life, a brother who collects wrecked cars, and dealing with the truth about Easter bunnies and Santa. "To read Sharon Nesbit's columns is to laugh, to cry, to remember..."-- Suzanne Martinson, Kelso, Wash., author, "The Fallingwater Cookbook, Elsie Henderson's Recipes and Memories." Married to William Nesbit Jr., she is the mother of two, and grandmother of two. Nesbit, age 71, a resident of Troutdale, Oregon, has also written - McMenamins Edgefield history, recently revised with Tim Hills - It could have been Carpdale, the centennial history of Troutdale, Oregon - The Pictorial History of East Multnomah County (compiler and editor) Awards and service: 1998 March of Dimes Woman of Achievement National Federation of Press Women Sweepstakes writing award (two time winner) 2000 Troutdale Citizen of the Year 2007 Troutdale Historical Society's Preservationist Award President of the Oregon Geographic Names Board Founding member: Zimmerman Farm Heritage Park Friends of the Historic Columbia River Highway Troutdale Historical Society
