It was a dark and funky night.

When a hungry beaver sneaks into the library in search of a midnight snack, he doesn't expect to be checked out as a library book. But that is exactly what happens when Maggie, a schoolgirl with a deep hunger for excitement and the strength of a ten-ton gorilla, decides that he will make the perfect addition to her book report.

What follows is pure madness, with each adventure more ridiculous than the last. From a circus with acrobat lawnmowers to Greek ghosts who spend their afterlives in very strange ways, there are friends to be made and fun to be had around every corner. But there are powerful forces at work in the beaver's town, and soon his search for a simple stuffed animal will thrust him into the middle of a struggle bigger than he could have dreamed. He'd better pack an extra lunch, because he has a key part to play in the battle to come. The time for eating salt shakers is past.
