Husum, Edward J., III: - Edward J. Husum III was born in Ancon, Canal Zone, to Edward J. Husum, Jr., and Ellen Foley Husum. His maternal grandfather was Roosevelt Medal holder Thomas P. Foley, who was hired as a Canal Zone Police Officer in 1912, and was from Ireland and who saw the Panama Canal open in 1914. Ed is one of 11 siblings. He grew up in the town of Balboa and attended St. Mary's Parochial School, Curundu Junior High, and Balboa High, graduating in 1972. While in high school, Ed was the cartoonist for his school newspaper, the "Parakeet". Ed left the Canal Zone in 1976 and moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where he attended Lively Technical Institute, graduating in Residential Building, and became a carpenter. He has traveled extensively in his life, residing in most of Central and South America, using his carpentry to help the poor and doing work for a nonprofit organization. Ed now resides in Tallahassee with his wife, Ruth, and their son, John. He enjoys working with his hands and renovating old homes, traveling, painting, and playing the guitar.
