In the mid-eighties, at the tender age of 19, Michelle took a leap of faith, leaving behind her home town in Nottingham, England to venture across the "Big Pond" to America. She decided to pause her idea of becoming a history teacher in England, and instead try her luck at living the American dream. Once settled in America, Michelle re-called an earlier interest she had in the salon industry. This growing passion inevitably led her to become a hairdresser in 1990, at age 25. Once licensed, she began building her career and clientele in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. After only 3 years in the business, she opened her first salon, where she constantly sought to improve her skills as a hair care service provider. In 2004, Michelle relocated to Hilton Head Island, to be with family, where she still resides today. She opened her 2nd salon in 2009, and celebrates the culture of a well respected Paul Mitchell Focus Salon. Her hunger for learning still continued to fuel her desire for more education, not only in her own in her field, but in other areas as well. She expanded her communication skills by becoming a Certified Life Coach. She shares her knowledge now as a Professional Speaker and Author, inspiring those around her with wisdom and humor. Michelle is passionate about effective communication as she believes it is the key to positive relationships both in business and personal environments. She is a former National Educator and Certified Color Educator for John Paul Mitchell Systems. She teaches group classes for N.A.M.I (National Alliance for Mental Illness) and frequently speaks at various schools, businesses and events. Michelle has harnessed the power in reflective communication in the salon environment with both client and hairstylist relationships, with a particular focus on client consultation techniques. She recognized that many clients and stylists needed to develop consistent systematic and effective consultation dialogues, allowing freedom of expression for thoughts and ideas, preventing frequent misinterpretations. She has developed these systems and has enjoyed great success in her own businesses, and so is now committed to delivering these proven techniques to the salon industry and beyond. The benefits of these principles are huge in all aspects of personal and business communications.
