But there is one story he told himself: the Tecosca Cormaic, a poetic guide to good life and good leadership dictated by one of Ireland's greatest kings. Recorded in the ninth century, these works have come down to us through the centuries holding wit, wisdom, and fascinating insight.

Consisting of a series of conversations held between Cormac and his son, each entry is labeled as a counsel. In this volume, each counsel of the Tecosca Cormaic is presented in richly illustrated glory, accompanied by the original Irish text and notes exploring its translation, its cultural implications, and its enduring message.
